n. (Kayˑlum Bellˑaˑtor) Origin: Latin
Sky Warrior
Freedom stalked by struggle. Beauty and grace armed with instinct. Full of life, yet deadly.
Hawks are intuitive survivalists, often concealed in the tall grasses and tree-tops of the prairies, cautiously veiled from the world. Other times you’ll find them soaring high above, flaunting their prowess, discernibly savoring their dominion. Exquisitely designed predators, hawks will patiently pursue a target, flawlessly timing its assault on the unsuspecting meal. In contrast to this violence is their tender devotion to their offspring: meticulously fortifying towering dwellings against elements and enemies, ceaselessly feeding ravenous bellies of shrieking broods, patiently guiding their young from the confining safety of nests to the daring freedom of open skies. These captivating creatures are remarkable navigators of the contradictions of their realm: liberty with safety, comfort with challenge, and compulsion with restraint, true warriors of the sky.
The obliquity of human character reflects a similar trial of divergences. Consciously or not, we deliberate our hopes and dreams with our phobias and limits, eclipsed with fear of failure and lost potential. We contemplate individuality and isolation with support and intimacy, balancing a human connection with our private experience of life. We ruminate our feelings of loss, regret and inadequacy with the need for purpose, achievement and value. It is a daily routine to balance (however effectively) these wants with what we need and what we know.
